One more historical note about Cincinnati chili: it was created
by Greek immigrants, and in some ways is very close to pastitsio,
a Greek dish made with pasta, meat sauce and bechamel.

If you check recipes for Pastitsio...about half or recipes use
nutmeg as the basic flavoring. The other half use cinnamon,
allspice and maybe paprika.
