my advice is *do not name* the meat animals. keep your
breeders as pets, but treat the kids as, well, future dinner.
OTOH, my friend that raises Scottish Highlands names the
calves after cuts of beef... we bought a "steer" named Gravy
from him to train as an ox. unfortunately, he turned out NOT
to have been cut & took to tossing me across the pasture on
his horns once the testosterone kicked in. behavior
modification after proper neutering wasn't breaking that
habit, so he's in my freezer now... i like him much better
that way
