Yes, Eastern Taipan is what we used to siimply call a Taipan.

The advent of discovering that the Fierce snake is actually a taipan
resulted in the names of Eastern Taipan and Western Taipan (Fierce
Snake).

Thankfully, most people dont get to tangle with Western Taipans...
