I'm certain I didn't pay over $15-20 in 1992 when I bought a bottle of
1990 Angelus. In 1992 I didn't have 20 bucks to spend on a single
bottle of wine. I didn't even know what $20-a-bottle wine was supposed
to taste like, and my budget had me enjoying ~$5 bottles (in 1992
dollars) from Cal, Spain, Chile and Chateau Ste. Michelle.
Imagine my shock after consuming the '90 Angelus in 1997, then
discovering I probably just drank a $300 bottle of wine with my $20
dinner!
These days you can't touch most recent releases of Angelus for under
$125. According to report, the 2005 Angelus first tranche offers in
June were nearly $300/bottle.
