Usually sober and quiet I must have a latent death wish or be a covert
masochist. I'm dicing along, something easy like celery or a carrot,
fingers not properly tucked, but at least two inches maybe three from
the knife blade when suddenly the blade swerves and goes for a finger.
Then back to dicing for three or four chops until I stop and wonder
what the hell just happened. Usually I've just sliced a finger nail,
but it could be worse. Can't explain the errant stroke. Wasn't a
hiccup or a cough; seemed just an involuntary quirk. Maybe I was a
knife fighter in a former life, or a spaz.
