Some lots of rubber or from manufacturers will smell different. My adsvise
is to smell bungs from different suppliers and choise your favorite. Maybe
you can leach out the odor ( which may come from plasticizers in the rubber)
by simmering in hot water. Another option is to wrap the bungs in Syran wrap
before inserting. Don't let the raw rubber touch the wine.
