Piping up from Oz here I have to say that I have seen spring onions
labelled as spring onions or shallots here in Australia. It might have been
a while ago though, cos now I buy shallots as shallots and spring onions as
spring onions. The names are contested though - in Australian Table or Good
Taste Magazine I remember there was an article on the names and what they
applied to.
