Default Horrible food memories from childhood

My mother made a nasty concoction that was called "Chinese casserole"
when I was a kid back in the 1970's. It had bamboo shoots and water
chestnuts in a slimy gravy along with browned ground beef. To this day
I cannot even look at a can of bamboo shoots or water chestnuts.

My folks had a rather large garden and grew a wide variety of
vegetables which I hated at the time but would absolutely love now that
I am an adult (and with the produce prices what they are nowadays
yikes!). Beets and green beans were especially hated by me.

I ate dinner at the home of an elderly aunt. The meal was okay until I
noticed that the dinner rolls were mouldy.

Once I poured a bowl of Crispix cereal (after having opened the new
box), only to have a large black beetle come tumbling out into the
bowl.

Actually, now that I think about it, food was not really something I
enjoyed until I was in my 30's. I guess that explains why I weighed
105 lbs until about five years ago, lol....
