My parents were poor and when my sister married. the bridegroom came from a
wealthy family and they suggested that rather than expensive champagne that
few liked (this was the 60's) order Verve du Vernay, a pleasant sparkling
wine, that was much, much cheaper. (In those days, the bride's parents
footed all the bills).
Well, everyone enjoyed it and knocked back large amounts so that the wine
bill was MUCH larger than if they had bought the real stuff.
