A short 20 minute trip east to Elgin will get you in smoked sausage
heaven at the Southside Market on 290. Butcher paper and all. Its on
the right.
If you're up for going to Coopers 60 miles west, they're probably the
only place in the state selling cabrito (bbq'd goat) over their famous
brick pits out back. They have a fabulous reputation for ribs, but
it's been a while for me.. Don't pass up any of the roadside trailers
that pop up[ selling brisket for snacks either. Threadgills is real
touristy, avoid the CFS (it's really greasy), not deserving of their
reuptation. If it's not too cold, spend one late afternoon at the
Oasis on lake Travis, enjoy some nacho's, a cool one, and a cool
sunset.
