Could be he's cooking steel cut or even whole oats. They don't do well
in a microwave in my experience, although I wouldn't do them in a
pressure cooker, either. Slow cooker with a timer is the way to go,
imo. Let the grains soak for several hours, timer turns the crock pot
on at the appointed time, and the cereal is ready to eat when you're
ready for breakfast.
