Accidental Bread
I've been making free form breads occasionally, but earlier today I decided
to make pizza. Threw together my usual dough, put in a covered bowl to rise,
and left for some errands.
Meanwhile, David got home from work before I returned. Now, you have to know
that he knows absolutely nothing about baking, especially bread or pizza.
Seeing the bowl of fully risen dough, he assumed I was intending to bake
bread. Since I had asked him a couple of times to preheat the oven to 425
degrees, he assumed he knew what to do. He preheated the oven, then simply
dumped the dough right out of the bowl onto a baking sheet and popped it into
the oven. No punching down, no final knead, no shaping, etc.
I arrived about 15 minutes into the baking, too late to do anything but
watch! Well, let me tell you, the bread was delicious. Nice crispy crust,
largish airy holes, very nice flavor. David was very proud of himself. :-)
I'll probably do this again...on purpose!
