There was a story about 10 or 15 years ago in the Northeast
regarding a much older but not really that widespread
practice of making "steamed cheeseburgers" in diners.

I never tried one because, well, I ain't dumb, and if
you have raw meat in a patty and a grill, you're not
grabbing for the steamer.
