We had one ( as did my Mom when we were growing up), but we checked it. Too
often it makes a mess of the edge or bottom of whatever you've baked. Plus,
they're a bitch to clean -- you can never remove the blade, so you can never
know if the bottom of the blade is truly clean.

A simple circle of parchment paper is simpler and works much better. If you
don't want to cut your own from a roll, you can buy the circles pre-cut to fit
your pan from any good kitchen store.
