When my two sons were going to Primary & High School, I used to have a
running battle with them, and their teachers, over the distinct lack of
correct spelling...... and the method that the Education Dept was using
to teach the kids words.
Their system was "If the word *sounds* like the word they want, it
doesn't matter how it's spelt"!!!
One teacher sent me a 1 page letter in reply to a letter of complaint I
wrote. I corrected all 17 spelling and punctuation errors in red pen,
sent it back with a note to tell her to do it again, *correctly*, and
then re-submit it.
I also sent copies of all the letters to the Education Dept.
Nothing has changed :-/
