Only unbagged carrots I ever see are the ones with the leaves
still attached, and while gorgeous, they aren't very big, either.

I had to laugh at your description of the onions in California. Went
food shopping in San Diego a couple of times, the size of the
produce was hilarious. Green peppers the size of a cantelope.
Etc. Try stuffing one of those, feed a family of 4.
