Default Preserve Asparagus

I like asparagus and enjoy it when it is plentiful and
inexpensive. However, when the price goes over $2/pound for
green asparagus it becomes a very occasional treat whether or
not I can afford it. White asparagus is an even greater treat,
IMHO, but its price makes it always occasional.
