Cigarettes were that much? As late as 1965 they were 35 cents here.

We could buy for 8 cents for small bottle or 10 for the larger size. The 26
oz bottles were 29 cents.
Chocolate bars were 5 cents for small , 10 cents for regular and 25 cents
for the huge bars.
There was a tremendous variety of penny candy, usually 2 or 3 for a penny.

In 1968 when I could get away with sneaking into a bar underage a draft
beer was 15 cents and a bottle was 30.
