Ever hear of Hoppin' John, while not technically a "bean" black eyed
peas are its primary ingredient an go very well with ham hocks.

The hocks are cooked with the black eyed peas and other ingredients,
fished out at the end of cooking, the meat striped from the bone and
returned to the pot.

I don't have a recipe to hand, googling it would be very easy, there are
lots of versions, and IMO a key ingredient is a good BBQ sauce as a last
minute flavouring addition.

It is often recommended to be served over rice but i like it in a bowl
as soup.
