Anyone who knows what went on in pre-war Germany knows a great deal of
anti-jew invictive was coming from protestant and catholic churches and
churchmen.

Hitler was raised as a Catholic and he never renounced Catholicism. In many
of his speeches, he makes reference to God. Here's an example from his book
Mein Kampf, upon hearing about the declaration of war in 1914: " I sank down
on my knees and thanked heaven out of the fullness of my heart for the favor
of having been permitted to live in such a time".
In a speech in Munich in 1923, Hitler said, the first thing to do is to
rescue Germany from the Jew who was ruining our country... We want to
prevent our Germany from suffering, as another did, the death upon the
cross."

Stalin was an atheist, but his early education was in a Christian seminary,
and he appears to have taken lessons from Christianity in terms of
organization and manipulation of people. His mother wanted him to be a
priest. His Christian upbringing obviously did not stop him from becoming a
murderous tyrant.
