He's a *former* junkie. Why would you hold that against him?

And Bourdain gives good, convincing reasons for hiring the (mostly
Mexican) people he hires.

Where are you getting these ideas, Janos? Please be specific.

What are you smoking? Bourdain left the Food Network when they told
him the shows he likes to do -- particularly one about Ferran Adira
and El Bulli -- didn't fit their business model. The FN wanted him to
stop travelling abroad, stop featuring foreigners, and to start
emphasizing barbecue and hamburgers. They wanted to dumb him down,
turn him into anther Bobby Flay -- and Bourdain walked. He deserves
tons of respect for it; the FN deserves our continued contempt.

Usually, one doesn't get to know an entity until one is experienced
with it. Bourdain's show was the best thing the FN ever ran. It's
their fault, not his, that it ended, and the FN deserves ever jibe
Bourdain makes against them.
