I wonder if there is a French idiom for French phrases of that sort;
if not, there should be. But, at any rate, to me, the French 'are'
amusing, as we probably are '...' to them.

Thanks for letting me know about the book. I lived in San Francisco
1970 to 1985 (with a time out on Vashon Island (Seattle) for about
2-1/2 years. (San Diego for 6 years previous in the 60's. I think we
ex-Californians all have our own experiences -- and opinion - with/
about California wine during this time (decades).
