Default Looking for recommendation for restaurant in Detroit, Michigan-

I always find it sad when folks from the suburbs give others a dim view
of Detroit and the many good eateries available plus a pleasant nite on
the town.

As with ANY inner city it would be wise to have some one who is familiar
with Detroit
to be your guide for the days you are here & not one who screams in
horror when nearing the famous 8 mile rd. border between Detroit &
suburbs.

As mentioned there is the one city block of old buildings converted into
restaurants called Greek Town, good food but most have long lines of
awaiting customers -no reservations- plus area is very safe day/nite&
only few blocks from the Detroit River.

You have the casinos in area with buffets which people have told me is
excellent.
Not having a lot of different ethnic restaurants in Detroit is also not
entirely true either.

Hamtramck- Polish- A number of home cooked polish dinners to choose
from.
Dearborn- largest population of arabs in usa your pick of restaurant to
eat.
Mexican Town part of Detroit has hundreds of street vendors selling
authentic mexican food from their homeland but most are also illegals &
none of the folks I know who have eaten these vendors tacos had no ill
after effects.

A number of good soul food retaurants are in area also.
Royal Oak was mentioned in previous post -suburbs- which is a hot spot
for both kids & yuppies and does have a number of good places to eat, my
b/f has work in city over 17 years in family restaurant and also serves
those coney dogs with meatless chili sauce topped with loose meat that
you have to try.

I've included a link to Carl's Chop House in Detroit across from one of
the casinos you might want to try, also look up web site for restaurant
called Detroit Soup Kitchen on Jefferson Ave. - Detroit- excellent and
no it's not free.

Last city of Berkley -also suburbs- has a large population of Indians
and number of good Indian eateries if you like very spicy food.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions as my b/f was
born/raised here in area & I have lived here since 1980 plus not afraid
to cross 8 mile rd. for a nite of fun and an excellent meal & still in
one piece after all these years.
