Default I got sick on my own cooking for the first time

I made some chili Sat night but early Sunday morning I woke up due to
diarrhea and then an hour later that's when I really got sick. But
afterwards I felt fine. I used fresh ground beef browned with 3/4 white
onion, canned pinto and kidney beans. The only different was that I use
Hunt's diced tomatoes with sweet onion by accident. Is it possible to
use too much onion? I still have plenty of chili leftover but I'm
reluctant to eat anymore even though It was good (as usual). Could've
been tinted meat?

BTW (ref. 'Browning beef with onions' thread)I added the onion when the
meat just about fully brown but I didn't noticed any water in the meat.
