The weather was unusually lovely except for raw, cold and foggy mornings,
but after midday skies were blue and temperatures pleasant.
The harvest had started in lesser vineyards and vintners were pleased with
the grapes that will go into the bread-and-butter wine for daily
consumption. I stood by one who measured the juice and heard: 90
degrees...!
Summer had not been bad, I learned, with sufficient sun, warmth and rain and
given another week with good weather this vintage may be extraordinary.
Everybody were quite busy and one learns quickly to stay out of the way and
cut back on idle talk :-)
