Default Facing Heaven Chiles Update

Hi -

My facing heaven chili plant seems not to have developed as much as I
expected this summer. The red peppers are less than an inch, and I
wonder if shady light was wrong for Northern Virginia? The plant has
been healthy enough, but perhaps I was wrong in my expectations?

In addition, the pepper plants I grew from seeds appear not to be the
same species as the Facing Heaven plant, and the shade, plus their late
start (and the damn squirrels or rats perhaps)), seems to have prevented
them from producing peppers.

At what point should the facing pepper plant come indoors? I am guessing
that under 50 degrees is bad for the plant, but maybe it can tolerate
lower temperatures?

Thanks for any answers,

Ian

Ian, I'm in the San Fernado Valley. Gets below the upper 30's only very
rarely. They get full sunlight from 11 AM to sunset. We've had our Prik
Chii Faas for over five years.

BTW They're planted in the ground, next to the front door. Convenient!

Mine didn't get enough sunlight, then. When the temp drops into the 50's
for the first time, I'll take everything inside, and try to keep them
going for the winter.

Next Spring, I'll plant my seeds early, and make sure the Facing Heaven
Plant gets a lot more sun.

Thanks for your tips,

Ian

That should work. Don't give them direct sunlight until they have developed
some permanent leaves and make sure they're in well drained soil! While
they like water, especially in real hot weather, they don't like to have
their feet wet all the time. Looking forward to your results. You can post
pics on alt.binaries.food. Good luck!
