Default preserved kohlrabi

I found a recipe that calls for this ingredient and went to my local Asian
food market to get it.

I wasn't able to find it among the packages or jars labeled "pickled" this
and "preservered" that. Many of the packages that were in English were
labeled simply "preserved vegetable."

I asked the food market store manager and he stared at me blankly. I guess
"kohlrabi" isn't a recognizable word to him.

What am I looking for? How do I recognize it? Are there any substitutes
that I might actually find on the shelves of my local Asian food market?

Any leads are much appreciated.
