No way, you can't even purchase any booze there. Just garlic, garlic and more garlic products. Food, crafts, entertainment, and oh, some more garlic.... You didn't check the vendors link. At least two vendors have garlic ice cream. "Everything" has garlic in it. As for attendance I think that this is a baby at only around 80-90 thousand attending over the two day period. Here's a quote from their Q&A, and no, I'm not affiliated in any way except I go every year. **** BEGIN WEBSITE QUOTE **** 9. Is it true that "USA Today" named you a top festival? Yes. The Hudson Valley Garlic Festival was the lead festival covered in USA Today's April 12, 2002 edition, covering the Top Ten Regional Food festivals in the USA, in their opinion. Here is what they said about us: ''This is a paradise for garlic lovers. Well-known chefs give cooking demonstrations, and people can sample Cajun garlic shrimp, fried dough with garlic and garlic pickles. There's even garlic cotton candy for kids, and garlic dog biscuits.'' We've also been honored by being included in * One of the 16 "Tasty Reasons to Travel", in Cracker Barrel's 2005 Travel Almanac. * The American Bus Association's 2004 Top 100 Events in North America * The Discover America calendar's top 200 events. Garlic without an adult beverage to wash it down with? Now I've heard it all. *shakes head in disgust* >Just garlic, garlic and more garlic products. Food, > crafts, entertainment, and oh, some more garlic.... Imported from Gilroy probably perchance? *rolls eyes* > You didn't check the vendors link. At least two vendors have > garlic ice cream. "Everything" has garlic in it. Much better. Sounds like it may be a real Garlic festival after all, despite the faux english script on so much, I supposed you northeasterners can't help yourselves from faux merry olde english stuff. ![]() > As for attendance I think that this is a baby at only around > 80-90 thousand attending over the two day period. Nice crowd. > > ''This is a paradise for garlic lovers. Well-known chefs > give cooking demonstrations, and people can sample Cajun > garlic shrimp, fried dough with garlic and garlic pickles. Mmmmm, donuts. Garlic pickles, yrmmmmmm. I drive through the garlic growing area near Gilroy every time I go duck hunting. During harvest season when they're processing the fresh garlic and there's a bit of ground fog, WOW, intense garlic smells for miles along the road. Good stuff. Enjoy your trip Steve! Dale |

However they have a train running down there you can take all the way from SF now. Makes it lots easier. |

Yeah, I know... no beer. That sux but I guess they figure
they won't have any problems that way and I'm guessing that the insurance is probably cheaper. Admittedly, Gilroy is the granddaddy of the G. Festivals but I've never been there and probably won't. I just go to this one mainly to get my garlic for planting. I grow various kinds each year depending on what mood strikes me and the stock that I can find that's the strongest. Of course I have to grab some things to eat and two years ago I actually finally broke down and tried the garlic ice cream. It was actually pretty dang good! I was surprised. Last year I had an amazingly good pulled pork (with garlic of course) sandwich. I hope that guy's there again this year. -- Steve |

All for a 1.5oz blob of ice cream :-) Ayup. Used to be a great festival. It's been all those things you mention going on about 20 years now. -- Reg |
