Does any one have an older Foodsaver Deluxe, it has a part #
of 35-0700 and another # of 98-41-E-05-2307? It is a channel type. I picked it up at an estate sale. It looks to have seen little use and works great. It has hooks on each side that when engaged holds the top section to the bottom very tightly. With no instruction manual and just looking at it one might think this is for storage purposes but I'm thinking this would be hard on the gaskets. Reason I'm asking is that the manual with my Vacupack warns against storing with the gaskets together as it will hasten failure of the gaskets. Anyone know what the hooks are intended for?? RM~ |

RM~ Many Foodsaver models have "hooks" or "latches" on the sides which are spring loaded. In operation, the bag is placed in the unit and the hooks are engaged to hold the lid tight while vacuuming. The force of the vacuum pulls the lid down tight enough that the hooks release so the bag can be removed on completion of the cycle. At least that's the way my last two Foodsavers worked. Ross. |

These do have to be manually hooked and released but it works great with out hooking. I won't hook them for storage. I put a small wood block in my Vacupack so gaskets won't touch and use a heavy rubber band to keep the top and bottom closed on the block while stored. Thanks, RM~ |

![]() I've been digging for more information on the Foodsaver Deluxe and find it's the same as the Vac1050 and has a nylon piston pump like my Vacupack does. Vacupack advertises that it's ok to run warm water through it's pump to clean it which I do after use. I have not found any information stating it's ok to run water through the foodsaver piston style pump Does anyone run water through their piston style FS pumps for cleaning?? RM~ |

After you engage the vacuum, the hooks unlatch automatically. -- The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. -- Bertrand Russel |

YOur best bet is to avoid liquids getting sucked into the pump i the first place. -- The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts. -- Bertrand Russel |

YOur best bet is to avoid liquids getting sucked into the pump<< Guess it depends on the pump, I flush my vacupack after every use and don't even worry about stuff getting sucked in. Didn't even realize foodsaver made a piston type pump until I found this one. Was thinking I might find someone with the same FS piston pump. Thanks, RM~ PS, The FS channel style is easier to use than the nozzle style vacupack but not as much suction. It's difficult to not suck anything into the vacupack. |

Last night I did find a complete .pdf manual for this unit (Vac 1050) but have not really read through it yet (it was past my bed time). Thanks, RM~ |

RM~ I would "GUESS" for shipping only. My foodsaver is a pretty ancient model and it has no such hardware. New machines might well be packed with the lids/gaskets compressed, but they are not expected to remain unsold and unused for long periods. Once unpacked, they should not be stored with the gaskets compressed because over time the materials will progressively stiffen and prematurely fail if habitually stored compressed. -- Brick(Youth is wasted on young people) |

I also purchased my Vacupack at an estate sale (luv estate sales). It had been stored with part of the power cord between the gaskets which caused an indent in the gaskets that prevented it from working. I applied some Armorall to the gaskets as the Vacupack supplier suggested and they returned to their normal shape. It did take several applications. The supplier also suggested a drop or two of Armorall through the Vacupack's pump every now and then to lube it. Don't believe I would try that on a Foodsaver pump. RM~ |
