> Is Kingsford okay? Or should I get another brand name? B&B is the best lump that I have used. The downside is that you need to order it from the factory if you're not in their distribution area. I usually order it by the pallet load and re-sale what I don't need to friends and enthusiasts. -- Dave www.davebbq.com |

![]() True Value stores near me stock a brand called Fire King, it's pretty good. The local supermarket had Royal Oak, which I'm using now. Also satisfactory. Brian -- If televison's a babysitter, the Internet is a drunk librarian who won't shut up. -- Dorothy Gambrell (http://catandgirl.com) |

Where I live you just get what is available, the local grocery store has a store brand that is probably made by royal oak since they seem to make most of the store brands. Have not tried kingsford but at least with lump they can not mix all the extra crap in. |

> Is Kingsford okay? Or should I get another brand name? I use B&B almost exclusively. Lately I've been buying a Mexican brand for $3.75/10lbs - mesquite - it works well. The B&B at my normal grocery store only comes in 8lb(?) bags for $4.75. I suppose the Kingsford works well - haven't tried it, but it's the most expensive brand out there. Anything but Cowboy brand "lump". -sw |

Those are all Cowboy lump and they do a lot of co-pack for private labeling. Whole Foods, Fresh Market, etc... -sw |

That stuff is nasty. Watch out, they get rebranded too. If you live in the SFBA you can't get better than Lazzari's in Brisbane. Priced have gone up though, to $15 for 40lbs of Oak lump. |

The local BevMo has Lazzari mesquite lump for about the same price. It's pretty good, and about the cheapest I can find around here. Thanks for the tip. I'll check bevmo. I have only found the kingsford and Cowboy stuff around here but I didn't know it was crap. Looking forward to using it. I've bought these in the past, discarded the pine and cut the almond into chunks and used them in the smoker. Almond wood smoke works well with just about everything. |

It's one of the few things in Norcal cheaper than what most pay around the country. In regards to BEVMO, since they already order from Lazzari, try and get your local manager to carry the oak. You'll love it. |

I use it too. It burns hot and fast, like most "lump" so you have to tend it more. Having said all that Lazzari is an excellent product. Kent |
