Default Hot boiled Peanuts....kinda OT, kinda not...

Family and I spent about 13 years in Georga. I was a "Damn Yankee".
Know what makes a Yankee a "Damn Yankee?

Anyway, I fell in love with hot boiled peanuts.

Today I decided to make about 3 lbs. of em.

9 hours later...YUMMY!

3 lbs. raw, unsalted, in the shell, peanuts.
2 heaping handfulls Kosher salt.
3 cups chicken broth.
Boil till as tender as YOU like, 5-10 hours.

Just goes to prove the point, everything is better low and slow

BTW, some people toss in a couple of smoked ham hocks. I have to try
that next time. Could be great!

I'd love to give them a try but, I probably don't have a snowball's
chance in He** of finding raw, in the shell peanuts here in Southern
Ontario, Canada.

Ross.

Lemme know how it turns out, Gene. I usually use hocks in beans or chili.

I will, next time.

I use hocks in split pea soup also, and with bean soup too!

mmmmmmm.......

I have family on Tybee Island GA. Boiled Peanuts, Blue Crab, Fresh
shrimp, sheepshead, flounder, and low country boils. Gods country.

You said you ordered them through the mail? Raw? Might you offer a
source?

No. I told Ross he might be able to order them. I got mine local in
Northern IL. at the grocery store. Meijer's has them in bags roasted,
roasted & salted, and RAW.

Now by raw I do not mean green. Just raw.

There has to be some place that someone out of the country (USA) can
order these things from.

Did a google and found this place
http://www.nutsonline.com/nuts/peanu...ntheshell.html

BTW, I love a good "Low country bole" (yea, spelled the way it
sounds).

Gonna have to fix one before the winter comes!
