Butcher shops still use it for the same purpose. I don't know why bars don't seem to use it anymore. Fire hazard, perhaps. -- Stan <http://www.tocquevillian.com> |

I had the pleasure of going to one such bar when I was on TDY in Alaska (The Bird House Bar, in Bird Creek, on the highway heading down to Kenai from Anchorage). Way cool place. Burned to the ground. Stories I head from folks up that way, it went quick and hot. Apparently some big developer in Anchorage proper has now "rebuilt" the Bird House as part of a big entertainment complex downtown. Bob |

One day they were celebrating some sort of anniversary. They dropped a ton of confetti onto the stage. The celebrants were holding sparklers. As one might expect, a spark dropped into the confetti starting a little "brush fire" on the stage. It was hilarious watching the participants trying to maintain the celebration and simultaneously stomp out the fire all around them. As Bill McNeil (News Radio) might say, "Ah, good times. Good times." We now return to our thread already in progress. -- TFM3 (not The Fat Man) Note: Spam-resistant e-mail address |

I don't believe it ran long enough to have any anniversaries. Checking TVTome . . . yep, First Aired June 1980, Last Aired October 1980. Brian Rodenborn |

Checking TVTome . . . yep, First Aired June > 1980, Last Aired October 1980. I saw the clip when he was doing his NBC late night show. If memory serves (which it possibly (probably) doesn't considering the length of time that has passed and the age-addled state of my brain), they were celebrating the anniversary of some guests (audience members?). I seem to recall an older couple in the middle of the brush fire. Anyway, regardless of the circumstances that led to it, I found the confetti fire highly amusing (what a sick ******* I am - people could have been hurt <g> ). -- TFM3 (still not The Fat Man) Note: Spam-resistant e-mail address |
