would appreciate suggestions for quick food that can be made the day before,
serve about a dozen who will be stopping by for an hour, that can go from weber
to plate, and impress like hell. meat, fish, fowl, veg - doesn't matter,
anything at all. many thanks.

Chicken wings or legs. Apply your favorite rub and place on Weber over
medium hot coals or lump about 20-25 minutes. Apply sauce if desired.

As always, Kent, you are right again. Here in Idaho, it's fake crab
all the way down. We also can't grow oranges, so I use Tang in recipes
calling for oranges. No coffee beans, but we have Ovaltine. This time
of year, there's no fruit or vegetables, 'cept for what we were able
to can during the summer or store away in the root cellar. Plenty of
pork and beef, though it can be a mighty chore to slaughter them this
time of year, what with the cold and the snow. Oh, and eveyone has a
flock of chickens in the yard, unless the coyotes get into them.

Can't chat right now, Kent. I just heard over the telegraph that
there's another Indian uprising south of the settlement.

True, but it still sounds good.

Most likely it comes out of a can.

Only if you've had four beers, and are at a tailgate party.

Canned crab at Costco costs $12/lb. You don't pay that much and combine
it with taste interfering high fat stuff that Tech Writer was squabbling
about. The people from Idaho rarely depart from the stuff that grow up
on the range.

That's quite a brain-trust you've assembled here, Kent. You found the
only person other than yourself who's dumb enough to believe that
uncanned crab is unavailable in Idaho.

You know, there's nothing more provincial than a bozo who trips all
over himself to deride the provincialism of Idaho. Now all you have to
do is say something snarky about tech writers and academia and you
will have been well and truly trolled by my .sig. But a schmart guy
like you wouldn't fall for that, would you?

It's possible that you can also get frozen king crab legs
way out in the Idaho boondocks. In my experience they are
not very good.

Kevie as usual you're drifting off base and serving your deficient ego.
To get back to the original poster's question, "What's a good
appetizer". Your response was almost retarded.

Learn to read; they don't have live dungeness crab on the range. That
was the point.

If that was what you meant to say, you might have said it that way the
first time. Instead, you said "Swertz you don't have live dungeness in
cowboy country."

Your point was that live crabs don't roam free on the range alongside
cattle, coyotes, and jackrabbits? Thanks for the info. You'll be the
go-to guy if we ever begin wondering if buffalo can be found in the
Pacific Ocean.

While you, of course, are keeping the thread on-topic. Way to get back
to the original poster's question, Kent.

What was it you were saying about getting back to the original

I know a guy who got crabs from a buffalo...But that was in Texas, not
Idaho.

You sure belong in Idaho. I don't think most read it that way.

Merely interpreting your clarification of what you meant. Remember,
you said "They don't have live dungeness crab on the range."

Any news on whether buffalo are found in the Pacific?

I purchased from the Princeton Seafood Company on
the shore, and I think it was $3.99 per pound. Not
really a bargain, but they sure were tasty.
