Barbecue (alt.food.barbecue) Discuss barbecue and grilling--southern style "low and slow" smoking of ribs, shoulders and briskets, as well as direct heat grilling of everything from burgers to salmon to vegetables.

Have a 4 day bus trip to Sylva NC, which is west of Asheville.
Anybody know of any good Q joints in the area-their name and
approximate location would be appreciated.

Just went through there today to see my parents. Fat Buddies is in Franklin,
NC about 10-15 miles away. It was covered in Southern Living last month. Take
64 west to Franklin and take the Rohler Mill exit. It is in the shopping
center w/ Kmart in it. They have also opened one in Waynesville, which may be
closer.

They use paper grocery bags as placemats. I have had their chicken and ribs.
Both are good. The sides are standard BBQ fare. It is not the best BBQ I have
had (but I usually make my own) but it is fine as far as BBQ joints go.

There usually is an older country gentleman with a long white beard sitting on
the bench out front. He is very friendly & speaks to everyone. Make sure to
say hello. The place is family run and closes down between lunch and dinner
(around 3-5).
