BUT, at my Agway (in New Jersey) the Royal Oak packaging is different from the usual bright red bag (as seen here- http://www.nakedwhiz.com/lumpdatabase/lumppoll11.htm ) And I've always wondered if there's a difference. It's a Blue Bag, "Royal Oak" in yellow, with a red slash saying "Lump Charcoal". Under "Royal Oak" it has an oval with "Star Grill" in it. Product of USA for Royal Oak Roswell, GA. Labeled on reverse in French for Canadian sales, with Canadian distribution address as well. Also, picked up a bag of a new brand of lump at a local Super Fresh (A&P-owned). At first, I shuttered when I saw it since it was from a not-exactly-known-for-natural-products company, Dura-Flame. "100% Natural Lump Charcoal made from Oak, Maple and Hickory Woods", tho', it said on the package so I bought some. (8.8 lbs for $4.99). Fine print notes that it's "100% recycled hardwood from Us milling operations". Haven't used it yet but it looks mostly like 2" or less dimentional lumber, not a lot of tongue and groove, nothing that looks "finished". |

It is a shame there isn't a Royal Oak plant in your area. I think a 20# bag at the Ocala Plant is $6.42 Big Jim www.lazyq.com "Matthew L. Martin" |

Each manufacturer has a different colored bag. Cannot remember what region the colors represented, but they are color coded. Like you said , here in NJ the red bag is the norm. I also have purchased the blue bag in Union County. The price last year was $8.95, this year $9.95/20lbs. the owner gives a $1.00 break per bag if you buy ten or more bags. Danny |
