I did a good thing already this month; I spent two days
at my own expense volunteering at a charity event that
raised over $5 million. See:

http://www.winespectator.com/Wine/Da...5,2496,00.html

Perhaps the most fun thing this year was navigating
my way across the meadow at the Meadowood in a forklift,
carrying a large grill still full of hot coals, through
2500 guests. I think the grill belonged to The French
Laundry, or maybe Bouchon, I dunno, I don't care. It's
enough that everyone had a good time and left $5m for
local hospitals, clinics and housing.

Dang, I thought everyone out that way was standing in line for free soup
since the dot-com deal.

I've volunteered since 2001 at the Napa Valley Wine Auction, and I
must observe that the display of excessive living was the lowest this
year I've seen... but even post-dot-com, there's still a lot of
money out there just like there was before dot-com.

I love the fact that the auction has overheard well below 5% and
the money is distributed 100% locally. For example, my hospital
got a new MRI scanner a couple of years ago from auction money.

I suppose we're a little off-topic, since real Q doesn't seem to
show up on the menu there often. But a lot of grillin' takes place.

On or off topic, those are splendid numbers....5 per cent overhead,
making good food turn into money which buys things that heal.

We've all done it at one time or another. Here's my new excuse:

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I'm schizophrenic,
And so am I.

5% overhead is excellent Dana. It's hard to do. Congratulations to all involved.
