The trusses and ceiling joists are now in place..... I'm posting pics on ABF
for those interested. The frame out of the front porch roofing area is also done. Today, the bobcat tractor will be adding fill dirt, leveling, and compacting the dirt to get ready for the concrete floor to be poured. Prior to the pouring, however, the roof will be built into place. I am pleased with the speed of construction thus far. Here are some little tidbits that are a bit annoying, especially with an ever-shrinking level of dollars: -- Many vendors don't seem to have a working definition of the word 'complete'. As in, "I don't know anything about what code requires for a hood ventilation system. In your bid for the ventilation hood, I want the COMPLETE costs of every bit of labor, construction, materials and systems needed to have a fully-working, Class 1 hood system ready for me to turn on and use when you have completed work." I received a bid of $3,250.00 from the one contractor in town. Not bad, me thinks. Two days ago, I called to line up his schedule with the building schedule. We are about to close our conversation when he asks "When are your carpenters going to have the fire shaft completed?" Says I, "What fire shaft?" Thus I found out that his bid did not include a few expensive items left out of the bid. [Note: A fire shaft is what the exhaust duct is enclosed in as it makes its way through the ceiling and roof] All in all, I found out that I will need about $7,000.00 more to scrape together to have a "fully-working, Class 1 hood system ready for me to turn on and use when you have completed work". <sigh>. -- If you have a public park near your building site, every burned-out, alcoholic, dope-smoking bum and transient in the vicinity will gather. -- If you have a public park near your building site, every burned-out, alcoholic, dope-smoking bum and transient in the vicinity will gather and ask you for a day job in order to buy the stuff that burns them out. -- If you have a public park near your building site, every burned-out, alcoholic, dope-smoking bum and transient in the vicinity that is refused a job, will sit underneath the nearby shade trees and watch the construction as real-life entertainment. -- If you have a public park near your building site, where every burned-out, alcoholic, dope-smoking bum and transient in the vicinity who is refused a job and who sits underneath the shade trees watching the construction as real-life entertainment, calls to the police must be made twice daily in order to shoo them away lest an unsavory reputation develops amongst prospective customers and unsavory smells of stale urine from around the shade trees begins to envelop your construction crew. Well, back to work. Dave |

You're being robbed. Not to make it any worse, but it *is* the carpenters job. Has the carpenter been paid in full yet? If not, backcharge him for someone else performing his duty. Let him know what you need done. He may balk and charge you a bit for an "extra", but it'll be nowhere near $7,000. (we carpenters work cheap.(and we **** under your trees too. <G>)) BBT® |

So, Dave, I haven't always followed your various posts about your 'joint' but was wondering if you aren't concerned with the corporation that owns the [so-called] "Famous Dave's" chain objecting to your name? I AGREE that it shouldn't matter but the lawyers for some of these chains and corporations get awfully picky (think Anheuser-Busch and McDonalds...). |

If it's a problem I suggest a cook-off. Famous Dave can use their $20K pit and Dave B. can use a tuna can and toothpicks. I wonder who would win. _________ ht_redneck |
