Default "Qik Jim" lump?

I was in a local True Value hardware store today and they had 20 pound
bags of Qik Jim lump charcoal for $11 and change. Anyone ever heard of
it? The bag said "all natural hardwood", (is there UN-natural
hardwood? ;-) ) with oak and maple.

Anyone heard of it or tried it? I'm getting ready for some trial
burns in the WSM. Hopefully it'll be here by Friday. (fingers crossed)

I used that once some time back. The biggest problem I had with it was
a lot of small pieces and very few larger ones. Looking at the Naked
Whiz site, looks like their test was similar to mine.

Overall they gave it a pretty good evaluation.

Thanks Brian,
I should be getting the WSM in a couple of days and I want to do a
couple of trial burns for temp. control (read as learning). I guess
I'll go ahead and use it. Thanks for the link.

You're welcome. I'd be interested in your results with it, I've passed
up giving it a second try but would think about it when my box of
Chigger Creek runs out.

I'll post my results later over the weekend probably. I'm sitting here
impatiently waiting for the UPS guy. (tap, tap, tap) First thing I'm
gonna do to it (after I get it together of course) is to put two
thermometers in it. I bought to of the threaded type so I'm going to
drill holes by the bottom grate and one by the top grate. I figure
that I couldn't really care less what the h*ll the temp is at the top
of the dome. Then I bought a Taylor single probe thermometer for the
meat with a remote pager.

I'm gonna do a couple of test burns and then probably try some ribs if
I've figured out temp. control (at least a little).

I'll letcha know.
