Hardwoods to avoid?

I have used hickory, oak and mesquite but wonder if there are any hardwoods to
avoid for any kind of cooking...

Thanks
Jim

I've heard of people using Black Walnut, but I haven't, myself. I would
add Sycamore to the list of woods not to use.

I don't know if Oleander is a hardwood, but the flowers are toxic. Anything
that gives toxic blossoms, I would avoid. But I don't know a lot about
trees

Oleander is soft wood and ALL parts of the plant are toxic to humans.

Adding to this...I had a friend in Jr High school that tried to cook over
Oleander. He got so sick, he never tried the food. Inhaling the smoke caused
tiny blisters inside his nose and down almost to his lungs. Oleander is *VERY*
nasty stuff.

I would avoid sassafras, eucalyptus, camphor, and
liquidamber.

I burn almond, and it is a very nice wood for cooking
and smoking.

TFM® -

I reckon if you used Zicam you'd have nose problems
(http://www.classactionamerica.com/Cu...ze-lawsuit.asp)
but my sniffer hasn't suffered from using mesquite.

An excellant source of childhood mischief. They make little hand sized
throwing missiles. Great fun to throw at pals walking home from school.

Common in the SFBA.
