I'm seeking a hotel near a decent bar in Boston. Said decent bar would
ideally have finely crafted brews, full-service liquor, a pub fare menu or better, and comfortable atmosphere conducive to conversation. I suppose I really am looking for the best boston beer bar recommendations, but I need to arrange stumbling/sleeping space more urgently. No rush. I would recommend something near Davis Square in Somerville. Maybe find a
bed and breakfast. Probably one of the best beer bars is called Redbones and there's a good Irish pub across the street called The Burren. Also near there is Inman square and another great bar called Bukowski's and there's also many other good Irish bars in the area. There's a lot of great bars downtown boston, but as for beer they can't compare to a Redbones. What type of beers are you looking for? |

I need a hotel for a number of people to meet, share rooms, and stay up all night talking at. I doubt a B&B would appreciate that kind of behavior. > Probably one of the best beer bars is > called Redbones and there's a good Irish pub across the street called > The Burren. Stouts, porters, IPAs, barleywines, belgians... I'm happy to drink fine bottled if no local crafts are available on tap. I'm spoiled on PNW beer and imported serious beer. I posted my query elsewhere and received a suggestion for a pub with $2 PBRs. You'd think I would have learned my lesson and specified my taste in beer in my original post here... :P fr0glet -- "You cannot be an objective scientist if you have an agenda." ~The Madman |

Stay downtown and drink at Bukowski's. <http://www.beeradvocate.com/beerfly/user_reviews/963/> There are two hotels within 100 yards of the bar. The Sheraton and one cheaper chain hotel. But any hotel in the Back Bay is close, really. <http://www.starwood.com/sheraton/sea...propertyID=430 > -Dan -- Dan Mielcarz http://www.netspace.org/~mielcarz/ "The woods are full of wardens." -Jack Kerouac |

Anam Cara Publick House in Brookline http://beeradvocate.com/beerfly/user_reviews/2247/ And I believe that there's a Holiday Inn down the street ... a short walk or cab ride. Street car ride is free outbound, service ends before the bars close. Cab ride is probably about $5 ~ 7. There are a few bars with at least decent beer selections around the Back Bay area including Bukowski's on Dalton St, near a couple big hotels like the Sheraton, Colonnade, Copley Square and Westin. -- Jeffrey Kaplan <*> www.gordol.org The from userid is killfiled <*> Send personal mail to gordol "It's going to require numerous IRA agents." A mile isn't far ... but I also suggested a cab. A $5 cab would be more than worth it. > There are a few bars with at least decent beer selections around the > Back Bay area including Bukowski's on Dalton St, near a couple big > hotels like the Sheraton, Colonnade, Copley Square and Westin. He asked for the best. Not the bars with decent beer selections. Buks is great, but not conduicive for what he's looking for ... meaning it gets too loud in the evenings to hold a conversation. I'm used to walking from the bar up a steep hill to home. It's refreshing. Or, if the drinking has gone beyond the point of being able to gracefully walk a mile, there's always cabs. >> There are a few bars with at least decent beer selections around the >> Back Bay area including Bukowski's on Dalton St, near a couple big >> hotels like the Sheraton, Colonnade, Copley Square and Westin. > > He asked for the best. Now you can understand why I'm all snobby about my beers and want to visit the best beer bars and want them to be conveniently located near my hotel. And nobody wants to hear a woman's voice get all screechy over the top of bar conversation. Thanks for every suggestion so far, they're all appreciated. My research is coming along well. fr0glet |

No rush. I do not live in Boston: in fact I've only been there once. When I was there I visited a pub called The Sunset Grill. Quite a few taps and bottled beers. Good food. It was about 5 blocks from my hotel, a DoubleTree. Each room was a suite. Very nice place to run a small convention or family gathering. Of course, check the web to make sure both the bar and the hotel are still there. |

Don't go to Sunset Grill or Sunset Cantina!! Unless of course you like dirty
line slugs in you pint ... awesome selection but the old beer and chipped soapy glasses have turned me off of these places for good. Anam Cara ... enough said. Cab, T or walk (long freakin walk) ... you'll regret not going. 1648 Beacon St. Brookline, Massachusetts (617) 277-2880 Cheers!! -- Jason Alstrom -- BeerAdvocate.com Art Of Beer Fest 05.08.04 - The Cyclorama @ The Boston Center for the Arts http://beeradvocate.com/fests/ -- "James J.
