portland

hey folks,

I am visiting portland this weekend purely for the pleasure of
drinking beer; besides Lucky Lab, Bridgeport, and the Horse Brass,
anyplace else I should be going?

thanks in advance,

mikron

The Pilsner Room for all the Full Sail beers, Higgins 'cause of the
good food and beers, and if you want to rub elbows with the yupoids,
check out the new Henry's 100-tap beer bar in the Brewery Blocks.
Also check out the County Cork if you have the time.

I'd add in the Laurelwood brewpub. Very well-done beers, with a good
variety, and a nice atmosphere. Higgins has a great selection, very nice
atmosphere as well. Full Sail's Pilsner Room has a nice view over the river.
Rose and Raindrop has got a cool vibe to it.

I would HIGHLY recommend visiting the Hair of the Dog brewery if you can.
If you are unable to do this, definitely sample their beers at the bars you
visit. Alan, the head brewer, is a great guy and personally gives tours of
the brewery by appointment according to his availability. Give the brewery
a call to try to set something up. Trust me, it will be well worth your
while.

Yes, all excellent places. There are so many great places here that it's
really hard to go wrong. Other than those already mentioned, I would
recommend the following:

New Old Lompoc (over the top beers. try the C-Note)
McMenamins Edgefield or Kennedy School (must be the first brewery resorts in
the country)
Baghdad or Mission Theaters (McMenamins restaurant/theaters with second run
films)
Rogue Flanders Street Pub (Most of Rogues legendary brews on tap, if there
was a word that decribed "more than delicious", I'd use it)
Crystal Ballroom/Ringlers Pub (McMenamins night club and cool terra-cotta
pub, also right across the street from Whole Foods Market and the best used
record store in town)
Main Street Brewery (new place that makes great beer, used to be called Port
Halling)
Alameda Brewpub (cool neighborhood and Indian Summer Pale is tasty)
Old Market Pub (underrated brew pub in Garden Home neighborhood)
Fearless Brewery (about 20 miles out of town but worth the trip. Has great
beer but not much else)
Crow Bar or Amnesia Brewing (both have limited but excellent and hard to
find taps. Amnesia should be brewing on there own soon. If you're in the
Mississippi neighborhood, you should also try the new Lovely Hula Hands
restaurand)
Widmer Brew Pub (Yes, they have quite a selection of small-batch strong
ales, and a really great restaurant too)
Lots of other places, but how much time to you have?
