Have the beers of Unibroue suffered as a result of the brewery being taken
over by Sleeman?

Haven't noticed anything as of yet, as my most recent batch of Maudite
was as good as ever. Sleeman have stated repeatedly that they're looking
at Unibroue as a premium brand they're not going to screw with, and that
one of their reasons for acquiring it was to ease distribution of Sleeman
products into areas where Unibroue was already prevalent.

Still keeping my fingers crossed that Unibroue continues being as good as
ever.

Have sampled Unibroue products on bottle and draught made since the
acquisition, including the new Ephemere Cranberry on draught, and haven't
noticed any deterioration of quality whatsoever.

I can't say the same about, for example, Guinness on draught since the
Diageo takeover.

If you look up the french-language babble thingy on
http://www.bieropholie.com (go to "babillard general") you'll see quite
a few messages about the new corks used for 75 cl bottles being a very
efficient way to prevent drunkenness... as well as basic enjoyement of
the contents.
I gather they tend to break, leaving half of the cork netly stuck in the
bottle's neck.

I drank a LOT of Unibroue on Wednesday (Terrible, Fin du Monde, Edition
2005, Maudite, and Ephemere Apple and Cassis, the latter of which was
surprisingly good), and it all tasted at least as good as before. Noted that
cork problem, though. Also talked to a person pretty high up in the company
who I have known for over five years who told me that Sleeman has not
interfered with production at all, and that things were running pretty much
as before. They seem pretty happy with the results, and noted that Sleeman
had really done their homework before making the offer.

I believe Sleeman's also bought out Upper Canada Brewing a few years
back. Can anyone comment on how this affected the UC brews?
