I read the following in the August Real Beer News emailing?
************************************************** ******** GENTLEMEN, START YOUR TAPS When you need a glass of draft beer fast, inventor Matthew Younkle says he has the solution. Younkle's TurboTap pours a 16-ounce glass in 2.5 seconds, compared to 8 seconds from other beer taps. More than 1,000 bars in the Chicago area, as well as both Chicago baseball stadium, have begun using TurboTap. Younkle came up for the idea 10 years ago when he was a student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Younkle, an engineering major, created a nozzle that slowed the descent of the beer and reduced the force of its impact. That means less foam, allowing bartender to pour faster. He produced a prototype in college and won an inventor's prize in a campus competition. http://www.realbeer.com/news/articles/news-002630.php ************************************************** ******** So, I went to their site. If you go, check out the videos. I clicked on "Contact Us" and inquired about a unit for the home draft system. I received the following reply. I had two questions. Why the apology? They replied within the hour. And I gather it's not a tap, it's a spigot. And why would I have to duplicate some parts I already have that are in perfect condition? Dear Tom: Thank you for expressing your interest in TurboTap. I'm thrilled to find out that there are so many people out there who are as passionate about draft beer as we are. Please accept my personal apology for taking so long to get back to you. I hope you find this email as good news. With the recent flurry of media attention, you have probably heard, read or otherwise found out by now that we are leasing the TurboTap to bars and restaurants and larger venues such as stadiums, ampitheaters and outdoor festivals for $99 per year. (The media flurry was started with this article: www.turbotap.com/wsj/ ) Our standard procedure is to visit an establishment and assess their draft system before installing TurboTap. We quite often find many opportunities for improvement before we put TurboTaps on their faucets. We always recommend, if not flat out require that the system be tuned and upgraded before we would install our product. Such improvements would include refrigeration repairs or upgrades, hardware replacements, beer line cleaning or replacement, tower lifts, faucet rebuilding and gas blending. We feel very strongly that the only beer that is poured through TurboTap, whether it is a lager, ale, pilsner, stout or porter, is perfect beer. We simply don't have the time or staff to visit every basement, garage, rec room or shop in the world that has a draft beer system (although, I'd certainly be up for trying.) So we spent many late nights over the past few weeks trying to figure out how we can get TurboTap out to our beer drinking friends across North America and the world while still maintaining our reputation of pouring perfect beer. Although we don't have all the details figured out quite yet, I figured it was time to give all of you an update. We have decided to put together a few different packages to convert your home draft system in to a TurboTap draft system. Each package will include a new stainless steel coupler, stainless steel fittings, new polyvinyl tubing, a 1/4" stainless steel shank, a vented stainless steel faucet and of course, a TurboTap. Some of you may already have some of the appropriate equipment, but this is the only way we can ensure that TurboTap has the best equipment behind it. We will have the TurboTap home kit ready in time for your holiday, New Years and Super Bowl parties. In the mean time, you may elect to receive occasional emails with tips on getting your home draft system dialed in for perfect working order. The emails will come every two or three weeks until the release of the home unit and will cover topics like temperature, pressure, restriction and gas blends. Of course, if you don't want to receive these emails, you may certainly unsubscribe. Again, thank you for your interest in Turbo Tap. Sincerely, Kristofer Dressler Director of Product Development |
