Default temper chocolate

WOW! I finally broke down and bought a thermometer to help with my candy
making ways....The problem? I don't know how to use a thermometer to make
the candy! LOL
Previously I posted a question about what I was doing wrong when making
chocolate covered candy and was told about tempering---so could anyone
please tell me how to do so? Previously I was putting some of the chocolate
out and letting it just solidify and going from there, but was told using a
thermometer is better....so please explain to a beginner!! LOL
Thanks in advance!

Default temper chocolate

Wendy (aka "frood") pointed me in the direction of this website...

http://www.baking911.com/chocolate_temper.htm

It has complete tempering directions and is very helpful all around!
