Cleaning my Aluminum Stock Pot

My son took my big Aluminum Stock Pot outside and used it as a bucket
to wash his car. I didnt realize he had done this and it was left
outside for about a week. It has since gotten a white corrosion on the
bottom of the inside of the pot and I cant seem to find anything that
will remove this. Any suggestions? I would prefer not to use harsh
chemicals, or is it safe to still use it?

It all depends on the finish and how bad the corrosion is? Aluminium
is a very easy to damage metal and is more porous than other metals
like steel. Some aluminium made pans can have an alloy coating which
helps protect the surface. Assuming it is not coated you have to take
into account how pitted the surface is and possibly use a harsh
scourer or wire wool on it first. The smoother you can the surface
back to, the less likely it is to worsen. If you use a metal cleaner,
I would do it as a last resort due to food safety and use a suitable
cleaner afterwards. If it is really bad I would replace it if
possible.

Best of luck

Cleanser and elbow grease will usually do it. Lots of it. You can also
soak a strong vinegar solution for a while and that may help.. Yes, it is
still safe to use.

How is your son doing? Are his bruises healing? :)

More appropriately, how are the flowers doing on his grave?

If you have the money, forget the elbow grease and buy yourself a
stainless steel pot and keep it under the stairwell. Buy him a
plastic bucket at the Dollar Store or Big Lots.

Agreed, as far as the SS pot, but you can save a buck by letting him
keep the aluminum one. (It might be wise to keep the SS one locked up.)
