Default Distance between front-back burners on pro ranges?

Hi,

I'm still a ways from redoing my kitchen, but no reason not to work on its
design now. One of the issues is which pro style range to buy. One
annoyance with my current cheap Magic Chef is the closeness of the front
and back burners. Put a large frying pan on one and you can only put a
small pot on the other. Looking at specs of pro ranges this distance isn't
one provided.

To start this off, and for comparison, I went and measured the distance on
my Magic Chef. Measured center-to-center I find 9 1/2"

What is yours?

I wonder how standard the distance is for appliances. I just measured our
Roper and it is also 9 1/2" To go greater distance, the range would have to
extend out past the cabinets more as space to the back is also limited.

Another inch would be nice. My wife tells me that all the time.

I just measured my Fridgidaire Gallery Pro - it's 9 1/4"

My old cooker (I can't remember the name - it was bought nearly 30 years
ago) had an inch or two more, but it was a deeper unit. The current one is
the same depth as a standard kitchen cabinet, the old one stuck out a few
inches.

Ah, one of my pet peeves. This 24" cabinet depth. In this era of mega
kitchens they still force major appliances to only be 24". I am a big fan
of 30" deep base cabinets. (And I'd make the upper cabinets 3" deeper.) For
this reason I will not be putting in a built-in refrigerator. With one I'd
have 6" of lost space behind, and I would not be able to have a large (wide
and deep) cabinet above it. Now if only one of the pro style ranges was 30"
deep...

my 30" viking is ~11 1/2". Definitely helps make all 4 burners available when
cooking for a crowd.

DCS 36 four burner gas with grill in the center
measures 11/1/4 center to center here with
slide anywhere grids. Over the edge up front and to the sides is easy .

Really large pans work great for home use anyway ....
Love my DCS ... cheaper then Viking but really
heavy duty units.

They tell me some folks from Viking quit and started up the DCS stuff ???
Well anyway it works here .

Howdy,

I have a six burner D.C.S. and need to add:

Despite the fact that there appears to be an acre of flat
range top, there is a serious difficulty using larger pans.
That is because at the rear, there is a vent lip of some
sort that rises above the plane of the burners. It is an
incredible nuisance. (but not as much as top posting <g>)

All the best,

The Dacor Epicure ranges allow you to put a pair of 12" pans on
adjacent burners. The 48" model has six 14" grates; the 30" has four;
the 36" has two, with four smaller ones on the left and right sides.

Hi Jimbo,

(I corrected the top post because I was taught to read from
top to bottom...)

I suspect that you are correct. That is, the vent certainly
does seem related to the oven, rather than the rangetop.

All the best,
