Default Discounted Large Kitchen Appliances?

Hi All,

Can anyone suggest a reputable web site to go to in order to purchase
second hand, majorly discounted or referbished kitchen appliances? I am
seeking a stainless steel oven, stove, dishwasher and refridge. THANKS!

How do you plan on taking delivery of a kitchen appliance that is 3000
miles from your home?

Check with the local restaurant supply houses. Restaurants are going
out of business even as we speak.

Referbished??...!! Goodwill doesn't even handle that any
longer...why would a web site bother?

Well,
The folks that trade on ebay (of which I am one of millions) find no problem
in buying a double oven or cooktop or whatever to be shipped to their front
door.
I barely missed a 30" Bosch double convection oven for $ 400.00 with a
factory warranty that would have been shipped 1500 miles to my door for
under $ 75.00.
I'da wake up if I were you Ida.

I'd like to know how it was shipped. If you check out any of the discount
appliance dealer on the net, shipping cost is very high. The $75 you saw
was quite exceptional. I just checked a web page for a similar item and the
cheapest was a week in transit and $123. UPS is cheapest for the weight,
but you must add in the size and it brings it within $15 or truck freight.

Ok...I am awake....now you buy a used appliance that most likely will
have user damage...scratch and/or dent. Then you have it shipped
and the shipper does transit damage. (Happens every day if you
receive freight on a regular basis. We deal in new furniture and
accessories.)

How do you plan on filing a claim on goods that were sold as is. Who
caused the damage and who is liable. Can you prove the "as-is" damage
was less than the transit damage..., etc. You might want to think
this through a little further.

Keep the economy in your local neighborhood....speaks well of your
entire community.

FYI, I own a restaurant that was built almost entirely with E-Bay
equipment.

This includes an 80 quart Hobart mixer I got for under $5000 delivered,
a 40 quart steam kettle for under $800 and a double glass door soda
cooler for under $600. There are lots of other things too numerous to
mention. Several sinks, shelves, display cases and more. All used, all
as described.

The first cooler I bought for $400 worked great for a few months, then
the compressor crapped out. The second was the one for $800 which was
six months old and is still in near perfect order.

All in all, I saved many thousands of dollars. Most of this stuff could
not be easily found nearby. Nothing was damaged in shipment.

Sounds to me like you're just plain scared of E-Bay.

But thank you for playing, and and Vanna will have a copy of our home
game edition for you on your way out.

I bought a 48" Viking cooktop (barely used) shipped from San Francisco to my
home in Albany, NY. Item was well-crated in 2x4's and plywood by the
contractor who was renovating a mansion there, and arrived without a
scratch.

Item was purchased on ebay for less than HALF what the same item new would
have cost from a local store.

Had a similar experience with the matching (kind-of: KitchenAid) 48" exhaust
hood, except it was purchased and shipped from Texas.

Both items have been in use for almost 2 years with excellent results.

YMMV

Have you checked your local yellow pages or does it have to be web?

Around here (Central Ohio) we have:
ApplianceSmart (www.appliancesmart.com)
Sears Appliance Outlet (http://stores.ebay.com/Sears-Regional-Outlet-Stores)
and several other smaller ones.

I've found just about any retailer has a "scratch and dent" location,
you can get some real deals there.

Not many bargains when you factor in freight.
http://store.yahoo.com/bestmaytaghac/may30micwalo.html#

Shipping used appliances is a double whammy. It is probably not packed at
all and what if it does not work when it arrives. I've never seen any
bargains on used stuff locally, so shipping would really make it even less
cost effective.

What about in DC, MD, VA areas or nearby states?

You don't know what you're talking about.
The seller stipulates the shipping arraingements, packaging, etc.
Buying on E-Bay, you can see the sellers past sales results. If they
haven't done a good job in the past, their feedback will show it.

Well, I guess that makes you the expert then, huh?
YOU haven't seen any, so they don't exist.

Put this into proper context.

I did not stipulate it had to be eBay. The OP was looking for sources of
used equipment, mostly residential type stuff. There are some excellent
dealers on eBay and I've bought merchandise from them with satisfaction.
There are many other sellers in many different venues that will sell you a
used range or refrigerator. You won't fare well if Joe Sixpack wraps brown
paper around the old washing machine and loads it onto a truck. That is a
far cry from a real dealer selling new goods or properly crated used goods.
I deal with truckers every day. I see some garbage on those trailers.

YOU inferred eBay, not me.

No, I've not seen any bargains locally. that is about a 35 mile radius of
where I live in northeast Connecticut. I never said they do not exist.
Stating my experience does not mean the rest of the world is like that, but
you are making assumption based on NO fact, just your suppositions.

Buying a $200 used washer and paying $100 in shipping does not make good
economic sense. Your $5000 Hobart is a specialized piece of equipment and
more difficult to find in many local markets. A good equipment dealer is
going to do a good job and you can get good value. Just don't confuse that
with someone looking for bargain priced home appliances. Worlds apart.

I'm glad I could clarify this so you have no more misconceptions and make
incorrect interpretations of what was not written.
