My daughter recently bought a used house with an over-the-range Jenn-Air
micro. It's only 2 years old. It worked for about 1 week, but suddenly went completely dead. We plugged it into other wall sockets without success. Does anyone know if there is a reset switch that needs to be pushed? Are there any suggestions, short of an expensive service call? |

I replaced a fuse and it worked perfectly for years until I gave it away. I would call the previous homeowners if they can be located and ask them if they had any similar experiences. Otherwise, you will probably have to have a service call to diagnose the problem. I wouldn't spend very much since you can get a new other-the-range unit for under $200. Newer models will have more features and probably perform better than a microwave that is over 5 years old. While you are at it, you might consider a new unit that is a microwave/convection oven. I love my Sharp combo oven - available for around $430 street price. Replacing an over-the-range microwave is pretty easy. It takes two people to safely handle the unit, and a few basic tools (level, drill, screwdriver) to install the bracket that goes on the wall. The oven will just plug into a receptacle and if it is vented to the outside, you will have to rotate the fan box (no tool required) and attach small damper. The whole job will take about an hour once the old oven has been removed. |
