I just bought a Vita Mix 5000. I've been intrigued by them for years
and finally bought one when Costco (love that place) put together a
special deal for a limited time. I've made whole food juices and
soups from the cookbook, but I'm wondering about other recipes or
suggested uses. I would welcome any input or comment.

You might want to check out their website, www.vitamix.com. They also have
a forum there, although last I looked, it wasn't very busy. People do post
recipes there, and the website has a bunch more, including a "recipe of the
month". My experience has been that anything you can do in a normal blender
you can do a bit better in the vitamix, especially purees, creamed soups,
and smoothies. I have had less success with making pastry and pasta,
although it's certainly do able. Chops meat very well too. Many of the
recipes in the Vitamix cookbook are good or (usually with a bit of
intelligent modification) very good; others are awful. It makes stellar
mayonnaise with no fuss other than clean up.

It's a good tool, if an expensive one. I hope you enjoy it.
