Default A good beginner's knife set

I don't know enough to follow the discussion in the other threads, but
what is a good beginner's knife set? Handles should not be wood, I
don't care if the blade gets discolored as long as it stays sharp.

Go to a restaurant supply store, and ask them.

They'll probably have Forshener (sp) and Dexter, good inexpensive
brands.

Wooden handles are ok in my book.

Buy the knives you want/need rather than a set, but make sure they feel
good in your hand.

your expectations are unrealistic.
all knives become dull with use.

Granted I was buying Wusthof garnd prix, but the four knives I did
want plus steel added up to more than the set, so I got the set.
